The functional organization of retinal input to the mouse superior colliculus
Published in bioRxiv, 2026
Using two-photon calcium imaging across more than 200,000 retinal ganglion cell axon boutons, this work shows that the mouse superior colliculus receives a near-complete sampling of retinal ganglion cell functional diversity. Functionally distinct response types are organized in systematic laminar gradients, including gradients of direction selectivity and contrast suppression properties.
